Physical Property Measurement System - PPMS®
Quantum Design PPMS® Legacy Product
The Quantum Design PPMS represented a unique concept in laboratory equipment: an open-architecture, variable temperature and magnetic field system designed to perform a variety of automated measurements. Available measurement options included all required hardware and electronics to immediately begin collecting publication-quality data, while the system was also easily adapted to custom user experiments. Sample environment controls included magnetic fields up to ±16 T and a temperature range of 1.9 - 400 K. Its expandable design enabled the combination of many features in one instrument, making the PPMS one of the most versatile systems of its kind.Obsolescence Information
PPMS sales have been discontinued, but we will continue to service and support existing systems until the end of 2028. For one year after the end of spare parts purchases and service, you can continue to work with the Quantum Design service team to explore solutions to extend the life of your PPMS. We will do everything we can via multiple communication channels to solve any problems you have until the end of 2029.
Quantum Design is committed to supporting your research and making this transition as seamless as possible. For customers who plan to continue operating their PPMS, our service team is available to evaluate your system and recommend actions to maximize performance, reliability, and longevity.
For customers considering an upgrade, many PPMS capabilities and more are supported on Quantum Design's latest generation of physical property measurement systems. Our sales team can help you identify which existing PPMS measurement options can be carried forward to a DynaCool or VersaLab platform and explore available promotions that best fit your research needs.

PPMS End of Service FAQs
The original PPMS platform has been in service since 1995, helping researchers test the physical properties of
countless materials. As with any technology, it is getting more difficult to purchase the parts needed to service
the legacy PPMS platform. Many parts have been discontinued already, and as we did with the MPMS platform, want to
reserve all remaining parts to keep current systems going as long as possible. We have calculated that we can
support all legacy PPMS platforms until December 31, 2028.
PPMS DynaCool and PPMS VersaLab instruments are still commonly referred to as PPMS, but these two platforms are
NOT impacted by this announcement. Only the legacy or original PPMS instruments are impacted by this end of
service.
We will work with you to schedule final service events and any other activities which will help extend the life of
your PPMS. We will also be offering several upgrade paths and trade-in options to move your research onto our
modern PPMS DynaCool platform.
For one year after the end of spare parts purchases and service, you can continue to work with the Quantum Design
service team to explore solutions to extend the life of your PPMS. We will do everything we can via multiple
communication channels to solve any problems you have until the end of 2029.
Many tools, probes, and accessories that you have for the PPMS can be directly transported to be used on the
DynaCool platform. Many more can be upgraded to work with the DynaCool platform. Please work with your service
and/or commercial team representatives at Quantum Design to establish what options exist for your specific
accessories.
The best person to help with upgrade paths is your Quantum Design commercial representative. If you do not know
who that person is, please check the contact page of your region's Quantum Design website.
